Liechtenstein's AAA Rating Reaffirmed by S&P

Written by: Bridgewest

Liechtenstein is one of the few countries in the world which usually receive good ratings from credit rating agencies. At the end of July, the government issued a detailed report indicating the reasons why Standard and Poor’s assigned Liechtenstein the highest rating: AAA. The agency also announced a stable outlook for the Principality. Our company formation agents in Liechtenstein can assist investors interested in starting a business here.

Liechtenstein receives the highest rating from S&P

The report released by the government on July 31st announces S&P issued the last rating on July 28th and that the valuation is based on assessment of Liechtenstein’s Gross Domestic Product and the strong and stable economy.

It is useful to say that this last rating does nothing else but to confirm the previous AAA/A-1+ sovereign credit on a short and long-term basis. The same is available for Liechtenstein’s outlook which remains stable.

The agency motivated its rating through the broad basis of the Liechtenstein economy compared to other small countries and the regulations related to financial market which indicate the government’s willingness to comply with international financial standards.

Liechtenstein’s outlook to remain stable

Given the government’s commitment to adhere to international standards, S&P offered a stable outlook for the next two years for Liechtenstein. The agency expects the country’s policymakers to adapt quickly to the taxation and financial services international legislation.

The predictions also indicate Liechtenstein will be able to keep the strong public finances considering the tax revenues which were described as “robust” by the agency. Another reason for the stable outlook is the “wealthy local economy” with one of the highest GDP- per-capita which would be able to support outside challenges.

Standard & Poor’s also commends Liechtenstein for relying on niche industries which only attracts large players and on the financial service providers.
